What is Cloud Computing?

WisdomGroup uses cloud computing to support our clients on the web and on the go.

Cloud computing is all about using computer resources in remote data centers managed by others so you can focus on something more important: Your business.

You use electricity every day. But do you own a power plant? Neither should you own your own web server. Better idea: Leverage the cloud so you can focus on running your company.

Too Much Traffic?

One WisdomGroup client markets a product that is well known around the globe. While examining performance logs, we discovered that their site was subject to publicity spikes - sudden increases in traffic due to a massive response to advertising. Normal, every-day traffic was fine, but the publicity spikes were more than a single web server could handle.

WisdomGroup solved the the problem by leveraging the cloud. Guided by the principal of "divide & conquer", we stored the site's images with a cloud services provider. Now, when the publicity spikes hit, site visitors are served by multiple web servers at once. Server capacity grows & shrinks to match the traffic. Cloud computing enabled WisdomGroup to provide a truly elastic solution for this client.

When the Site is Available, Buyers Will Buy

An increasing number of companies are dependent on the web for client interaction and payment. If the web site goes down, business grinds to a screeching halt.

One such web-dependent business was suffering repeated outages, and they approached WisdomGroup for assistance. At the time the entire site lived on a single web server that was prone to outages. WisdomGroup moved the site to a platform provided by our cloud computing partner, Engine Yard. The site is now consistently stable and available, which yields increased revenue for our client. Cloud computing enabled WisdomGroup to transform an erratic site into a stable, revenue-generating engine for our client.
