Windows on a Mac: An Official Solution
Apple today announced a public test (“beta”) version of Boot Camp, which makes it easy for Intel-based Macs to run both Apple’s OS X operating system and Microsoft’s Windows XP operating system. Boot Camp will be a feature in Leopard, the next major release of OS X.
Unlike the homegrown solution released last month, Apple’s new software doesn’t require any tricky technical work. A graphical interface is provided for splitting up your hard drive to make space for both OS X and Windows XP. The software also burns a CD of all the necessary drivers you’ll need in Windows to provide support for the graphics, audio, and network cards used in a Mac.
Apple says they have no plans to sell or support Windows. However, with Boot Camp, Apple is likely anticipating a large number of “switchers” to move to Mac hardware.
