Forgotten Attachment

October 29, 2008 – By Raymond T. Hightower | 0 Comment

How many times have you hit the email “send” button only to realize that you’ve forgotten an attachment? I’m embarrassed to say how often I make this blunder! Fortunately, a new GMail feature can help eliminate this oversight.

The Forgotten Attachment Detector is a GMail feature that does just what the name implies. When you hit “send”, it scans the outgoing message for clues that you may have meant to include an attachment. If it spots a clue (such as the word “attachment” in the text) it displays the message shown below.

GMail Labs
This detector is provided by GMail Labs. It is not an official component of GMail (yet). Google offers the following caveats for those who are willing to test the Labs features:

  • They may break at any time.
  • Similarly, they may disappear temporarily or permanently.
  • They may work so well that they graduate and become regular features.

To view a list of Labs features in the GMail web client, click Settings, and then click Labs.
