Where Do Good Ideas Come From?

June 4, 2007 | By Raymond T. Hightower

Paul Bennett is a creative director at Ideo, the design firm that brought us a version of the Palm Pilot. Bennett argues that good design doesn’t have to be earth shattering. Rather, good design can solve small, universal, and overlooked problems. We often miss good ideas because they’re staring us in the face!

TED Conference
Bennett spoke at this year’s Technology, Education, and Design (TED) Conference. TED attendance is by invitation only, and after you’re invited, you have to pay a substantial conference fee. It’s worth it: Registration for next year’s conference is already closed.

TED attendees are leaders (names you know) in business/tech, entertainment, and politics. Speakers (who waive their typical 5-figure fees) come from the same elite group of high achievers.

The Blinding Glimpse of the Bleeding Obvious
In recent years, TED has made video of the conference available online. Bennett’s talk appears below.

Applications
I was immediately hit with the following thought during the video: What obvious ideas am I overlooking? Time to innovate!
