RCN: Effective Internet

It’s always pleasant to report good customer service. Two weeks ago Wisdom ordered RCN cable as a backup for an unreliable DSL circuit. Less than eighteen hours after we placed the order, the installation was complete. Impressive!
DSL Disappointment
Disappointed with the performance of our DSL circuit, we decided to order cable. I placed the order on a Friday evening. Scheduled the installation online for Saturday morning… about eighteen hours later.
I chose the 11am – 2pm installation range at RCN’s Web Site and I clicked the submit button.
Low Expectations
Humans, by nature, protect themselves from the pain of disappointment by setting low expectations. And that’s exactly what I did. Placing an order online is reasonable. Placing an online order for the next day seemed lofty. “Nobody delivers that level of customer service” I thought.
RCN Cable Delivered
But I was (happily) wrong! RCN delivered. And I was impressed.
One Downside: insufficient Static IPs
The circuit is fast, but RCN is unable to provision enough static/public Internet protocol (IP) addresses for the needs of our office. So we can’t leave the old DSL circuit completely. Fortunately, our firewall can handle two wide area network connections at once so we reap the benefits of having two circuits.
Overall: I’m Impressed
Overall, I’m impressed with RCN’s performance. I even waited ten days to write this entry because I wanted to be sure RCN could perform post-installation. They have. I find RCN’s customer service inspiring and impressive.
