AlloSphere Blends Art & Tech
Humans are visual creatures. That’s one reason why we convert strings of numbers into pie charts. JoAnn Kuchera-Morin invented the AlloSphere to leverage our natural visual strengths in three dimensions.
The Allosphere is a 3-story metal sphere within an echo-free chamber. What could physicists learn by standing inside of an atom? What could medical researchers learn by standing inside of a cancer cell? The AlloSphere is helping Kuchera-Morin and her team to answer these questions.
Tour the AlloSphere in this 7-minute video.
Kuchera-Morin is director of the Center for Research in Electronic Art Technology (CREATE) at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Scientists using the Allosphere are discovering new mathematical structures thanks to models rendered within the AlloSphere.
